Day 22–8/24/2024
It’s my nephew, Reed’s birthday today. He is 20! Hard to believe.
I took my morning walk, got back, ate breakfast, and did my last minute things. We got on the road by 8:30. We have a pretty long drive to Billings today. But first, a picture of where we've been the past two nights.
Yesterday, we heard from our group that there was a fire along the way with some of the interstate closed down at times. Here are pictures of the aftermath of those fires.
We got to Billings at around 2:30 and parked at Cabela’s. When we got there, there were several campers and vehicles already there. They are nice long sites. So we got situated for the overnight, and headed into the store.
Vince was eating his apple, so we sat outside and met some young men from a ministry that helps young people deal with addiction. We gave them a donation and talked to them some more. One of them almost died from a fentanyl overdose. We told them about our friend, Raelan’s accidental overdose.
The rest of the day was taken up with shopping—Cabela’s, Sams, Walmart, and then Sams for dinner and froyo. We slept well, even though we were concerned about the “No Overnight Parking” sign. We were reassured by an employee that we would probably not be bothered. And we weren’t. Plus there were at least 7 other campers in the parking lot by the time we woke the next morning.
Day 23–8/25/2024
We got up and ate breakfast. Then we hit the road early.
We’re on our way to Cardwell, MT to meet up with our friends who got ahead of us yesterday. There’s not much to tell about this day. We made it to the campground in plenty of time for me to do some laundry. We had leftovers for dinner. We sat around and talked to our friends about our adventures.
