Western Adventure #45: Goodbye Yellowstone; Hello Grand Teton NP

Day 45-9/16/2024

Today is another moving day. We are headed to the Grand Teton National Park to camp in Gros Ventre Campground. Thank You, God, we were able to get Faye started because Vince plugged in the engine block heater. She started right up like a champ.

We knew we would have a traffic delay at Lewis Lake on our way south. Thankfully, it wasn’t too bad. Lewis Lake is a very beautiful lake, just like all the lakes we’ve enjoyed on this trip. We also enjoyed the aspens changing colors.

At noon, we got our first glimpse of the Tetons. They always capture my attention. They are so awesome.

We made it to Gros Ventre Campground with no incident. We have a nice campsite in C loop. We can just see the top of Grand Teton from our campsite. It would be the last time we saw the Grand Teton peak until the day we left Grand Teton National Park.

On our way in, we caught a glimpse of some moose along the Gros Ventre River by the main road. So after lunch, we drove over there to see if we could see them. Unfortunately, they had just moved along. So we missed them. But we did get to talk to a couple and an older man who knew a lot about the habits of the moose and what I would need to capture good photos with my camera.

We had some time to kill, so we rode around the loops of the Gros Ventre campground. We were in Loop G on the south side of the campground. As we were coming around to the exit, we saw a critter cross the road in front of us. I knew immediately it was a badger. Vince stopped the Jeep, and we took pictures of the badger. He was quite the character.

We went back to the camper to chill for a little while before heading to Dornan’s for pizza. Ever since we knew we were coming here, we’ve been craving Dornan’s. There is a live webcam there at Dornan’s. Nathan told us to let them know when we were there so he and Anna Marie could see us on the webcam. While we were in line to order, Vince told me to go see where the webcam was. This is the line to order that Vince stood in.

I was able to find the webcam pretty easily. I stood by the interpretive sign and texted the kids that I was at the Dornan’s webcam. So Nathan and Anna Marie called me, and we talked while Vince waited in line. At least they got to see me. Here's the interpretive sign I stood by to talk to the kids.

I told Anna Marie and Nathan that Vince was in line to order. Eventually I said bye to them and went back in. He was just ordering, and we were able to get an indoor table since we were still getting over colds. Here's the view from inside Dornan's.

We enjoyed our pizza. We couldn’t eat it all, so we got a to-go box.

Here is another picture of the Teton Mountains from Dornan's. ⬇️

After dinner, we went out to the webcam again, and Nathan called us. We talked to him, but he couldn’t get Anna Marie to pick up. The weather is coming up from the south. Dark clouds are beginning to form over the Teton Range. We'll see what the weather has in store for us tomorrow...
